Completion of activities on third commissioning package of stabilization measures at Shelter object came as certain gift from the Stabilization Consortium led by JSC Atomstroyexport to Chernobyl NPP for Power Engineering Day.
The commissioning package comprised three stages. The first two steps involving strengthening of northern buttress wall and its connection with northern boards-sticks were successfully implemented in August 2006. The third and the last activity of the package joining southern board-sticks with southern boards was completed in the end of November, on a date stipulated by the contract. While implementing the works some efficient technologies allowing a Customer to save money have been applied.
In 2006 the Stabilization Consortium also executed works on commissioning packages 1-2 that included reinforcement of Mammoth beam western and eastern support as well as deaerator stack cover slabs stabilization.
Load transfer from the roof to the newly built metal structures by two beams jacking marked the final step towards object commissioning and ensured the structure stability. The works were successfully implemented on December 16, 2006, as was reported by head of Ukranian EMERCOM together with Consortium representatives at press-conference held directly at ChNPP site.
The Russian-Ukranian Consortium implementing stabilization activities at the Shelter object is led by JSC Atomstroyexport. The Consortium also includes the Ukranian companies Yuzhteploenergomontage, Atomenergostroyproject and Department for the construction of Rovno NPP.
The contract was signed in 2004 within the framework of the Shelter Implementation Plan activities financed by the Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The latter is administered by EBRD.
