On December 16, 2006 the Stabilization Consortium leaded by JSC Atomstroyexport completed the main works on the most complex commissioning package №2 at the Shelter object of Chernobyl NPP, thus marking a final step towards the object commissioning.
The commissioning package included activities on reinforcement of the western fragment of the Shelter object by erecting new spatial lattice metal structures that consist of two towers. The Ă-shaped towers have lateral bracing and are intended for sensing vertical and horizontal loads from B1 and B2 beams that used to support the roof of the object.
Load transfer from B1, B2 beams to the newly built metal structures came as result of a continuous work performed by engineers and designers and lasting for 29 months.
The works have been completed by the scheduled date.
The Russian-Ukranian Consortium implementing stabilization activities at the Shelter object is leaded by JSC Atomstroyexport. The Consortium also includes the Ukranian companies Yuzhteploenergomontage, Atomenergostroyproject and Department for the construction of Rovno NPP.
The contract was signed in 2004 within the framework of the Shelter Implementation Plan activities financed by the Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The latter is administered by EBRD.
